Waste manager collapses during sanitation exercise

The National Sanitation Day exercise which was held today was torn apart due to lack of public participation. Then it gets more worse!

The head of waste management for the Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, John Gorkeh Miah couldn't endure the stench and collapsed during the exercise.

Ghana gets Africa’s first canopy walkway on the sea

Wait! Canopy walkway on sea? ok would you believe we now have such thing in Ghana? Then let me explain matters.
A 105-metre canopy walkway cost over $200,000 has been constructed on the Tema Sea near the Meridian Rock. It is stringed to the premises of the Ave Maria Resort formerly known as Halcrow Beach.

Its is also the first and only canopy walkway in Africa as far as the sea is concerned. So thumbs up Ghana!

Ex-Enyimba football star found dead at his home in Enugu

Former Enyimba defender, Romanus Orjinta was found dead at his home in Enugu on New Year’s Eve, December 31st.

The 33yr old former central defender was a coach and had won the CAF Champions league for Enyimba football club in 2003 passed away mysteriously.

Investigations are on going to found the cause of his death. For now, May His Dear Soul Rest In Perfect Peace.

Osu Salem On Fire !!

The people of Osu Salem in Accra were in disarray as fire gutters a house causing one death yet to be confirmed. A six year old girl is feared dead but we are yet to find that out.

Thankfully, firefighters who arrived at the scene have brought the inferno under control. It is suspected that the fire was caused by an electrical fault although the fire authorities have not established the actual cause.

GH rapper Kwaw Kese who was arrested late last year for smoking marijuana in Kumasi took to twitter early Thursday morning to share his new year message with Ghanaians. The King Of The Streets has been off social media for weeks due to his arrest gave his first 2015 tweet. Man hangs himself near Accra Mall

A man believed to be in his thirties has allegedly committed suicide at Casa Trassaco, close to the Accra Mall.
The man was seen hanging on a tree at the Accra – Tema side of the Motorway Friday morning.
Speaking on the Joy FM Super Morning Show, Benjamin Hineku who was at the scene said the man who was dressed in sea blue T-shirt and a khaki trousers, had cotton wool and plaster on one foot.

The gay doctor who has admitted sodomising a 16-year old SHS student has been arrested.
Dr Sulley Ali-Gabass, senior medical doctor at Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Takoradi was arrested Wednesday afternoon following revelations from a painstaking investigation by Joy News' Manasseh Azure Awuni.

The arrest was confirmed by the Police Acting Public Affairs Director DSP Cephas Arthur in an interview with Joy News' Dzifa Bampoh.

In the latest twist to the abysmal maintenance culture in Ghana, the chiefs and people of Dunkwa have poured libation in the Offin river to ask for direction on how to fix an almost broken bridge in their town.
They have also asked the river to protect persons who use the ramshackle bridge.
According to the residents, calls to the Ghana Highway Authority to fix the bridge, which is hanging on its "last legs" and a virtual disaster waiting to happen, have fallen on deaf ears.
According to Solar FM News' Oppong Heavenson, the chiefs poured libation on the river to save the bridge from total collapse and to save the lives of the people.

A Togolese national, believed to have been swept away by Saturday evening's downpour, has been found dead in a drain behind RECT Academy at Kwashiebu in Accra.
The body of the man, who is in his late thirties, was discovered Sunday floating in a prone position with with his face planted in the mud that had accumulated on the edges of the drain. He was later identified as Kwaku Abbey who hailed from Aneho in Togo.
Mawushi Nutsugah, a sister of the deceased, told Myjoyonline.com that her brother, who was a labourer was swept away by the flood when he attempted crossing the drain near the Presbyterian Church at Kwashiebu.

Military officers fight each other to death over girlfriend

While Nigerians are living in fear due to Ebola outbreak, Two military officers, Hilary and Sheu Abdullahi, combated each other to death on Sunday morning at a popular night club on Pen Crescent, Apapa area of Lagos over a girlfriend.

Hilary, a corporal in the Nigerian Army had gone to the club with his girlfriend who was wored a military outfit.
The problem however began when the bouncers at the club stopped the lady and challenged her for wearing a camouflage despite not being a military officer.
Hilary in defense of his girlfriend, allegedly asked why they would question her in his presence and an argument ensued.
Abdullahi, a naval officer who tried to settle the dispute, further fueled the fight by slapping Hilary’s girlfriend for disrespecting him. Continue....

An 18 year old student has committed suicide at Daboase in the Western Region.

The student, Ishmael Kwesi Ayebi hanged himself at his father’s residence.
The corpse has since been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue for autopsy while police conducts investigation.

Inspector Emmanuel Kofi Eyison, the Daboase Station Master, confirmed the incident to Ghana News Agency on Monday.
He said the father of the deceased, Ambrose Ayebi, a security man at the Socfinaf Plantation at Daboase reported the incident to the Police on Sunday August 10.
According to the Police, the father of the deceased went to the house around 12 when he found him dead.

A man has been sanctioned for pretending to be a ghost and other rowdy behaviour in a cemetery, according to police.
Ghost pretender, Anthony Stallard had been out drinking with friends when they went to Kingston Cemetery in Portsmouth where they started to play football.

A Hampshire police spokesman said that witnesses complained to police about Stallard who appears as a Ghost throwing his hands in the air and saying "wooooooo". Continue.......

Rwanda has placed a German student with Ebola-like symptoms in isolation, and is waiting for test results checking for the deadly tropical disease, the health ministry says.

"Samples from the suspected case have been sent for testing to an international accredited laboratory for approval, results will be available in 48 hours," the health ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

Ugandans have criticized Ministers and MPs who were caught on camera sleeping through important speeches. At the most recent state-of-the-nation address, Uganda's second deputy prime minister Moses Ali wore sunglasses too dark to enable anyone to see his eyes were opened (seen in picture above).

Moses Ali, 74, is one of the cabinet ministers who seem to have improvised a way to escape the scrutiny of nosy media cameras that have on several occasions caught senior government officials and MPs dozing when the president is delivering his address and when the national budget is read.

Robin Williams, an Oscar-winning actor and comedian, has died from an apparent suicide at his home in Northern California. He was 63.

"This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken," Williams's wife Susan Schneider said in a statement on Monday.

The sheriff's coroner's division said it suspects the death was a suicide due to asphyxia, but the cause of death is still under investigation. Continue....

Ivory Coast has banned all passenger flights from three countries hit by Ebola in an attempt to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

It is the only country, after Saudi Arabia, to impose such a ban, amid mounting concern about the outbreak which has killed nearly 1,000 people.
The ban covers Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, which are worst affected by Ebola, Ivorian officials said.
It excludes Nigeria, where a tenth Ebola case has been confirmed.

Three French workers are to appear in court on charges of stealing gold worth 900,000 euros ($1.2m; £720,000) from a property they worked on, a local French newspaper reports. They are said to have been levelling land at a house in Normandy for several days when they discovered the 16 gold bars and 600 US $20-gold coins.

The treasure, which was found in glass jars, is believed to have been hidden on the property during World War Two. Tax officials were alerted when one of the workers deposited two high-value cheques in his bank account.

When investigators caught up with them, they confessed to their crime, according to the report in regional daily Paris Normandie (in French).
The three are soon to appear at court in Evreux, north-west of Paris.

Man City sign Mangala for £32m

Manchester City have signed defender Eliaquim Mangala from FC Porto for a fee understood to be about £32m. The 23-year-old Frenchman who has been signed for five years expressed his joy on the club's website. He said,
"City is a top club in Europe."

"For me, it was an important step to leave Porto and join Manchester City in order to continue my progress.
"I want to win titles and I believe I can do this. I am ambitious and this is why I am here."

Mangala has become City's sixth summer signing and their second from Porto, after Brazilian midfielder Fernando joined for about £12m.

The New York Daily News captured some photos of Gates aboard “The Serene,” a $330 million dollar yacht that Gates and his family are renting for $5 million per week.

In addition to its 12 staterooms, the 450-foot, seven deck vessel also comes equipped with its own saltwater pool, climbing wall, library, health spa, outdoor theater and even a nightclub spread out over the boat’s combined 48,000 square feet.

'Half of a Yellow Sun has set a new first weekend box office record in Nigeria. The record came from showing the movie in 15 cinemas across Nigeria in its first three days, with Lagos cinemas topping the charts.

'Half of a Yellow Sun is expected to also break the record of the highest grossing movie in Nigeria, being the country of the author of the book, and the director and executive producers of the movie.

Survivors of Boko Haram attack stranded on mountain

Hundreds of people who escaped a Boko Haram attack on their town in Nigeria's restive north and fled to a nearby mountain said on Saturday they were without any food.

"We are in distress. We need help," said Liman Ngosha, a farmer from the town of Gwoza.
"We have been starving for the past four days. We are surviving now on wild fruits," he told AFP by phone from the Mandara mountain.

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen attacked the town, some 135km from the state capital of Maidugur, on Wednesday.

The raid left dozens dead and sent others fleeing to the mountain near the Cameroonian border.
Survivors said there were no soldiers to defend them.

Afghanistan suicide bombing kills 4

A suicide car bomber attacked a NATO convoy moving through Afghanistan's capital Sunday, killing at least four civilians and wounding more than 35 in an assault claimed by the Taliban, authorities said.

The blast struck two MRAPs, or Mine Resistant Ambush Protected armored vehicles, in western Kabul, damaging a civilian car and leaving debris scattered across a highway lined by shops. NATO troops and Afghan soldiers cordoned off the scene after the blast.

Hashmat Stanikzai, a spokesman for Kabul's police chief, said the blast killed four civilians and wounded more than 35 people. NATO later said the blast wounded none of its troops, though it was investigating the attack.

Nigerian man quarantined in Hong Kong over Ebola

A Nigerian man was quarantined today in Hong Kong after he showed Ebola-like symptoms during a trip to the city. The man who arrived Hong Kong from Lagos on Thursday August 7th via Dubai, was isolated in a hospital after severe vomiting and suffering from diarrhoea. He later tested negative for Ebola.

In a statement released today, the Southern Chinese city government said the 32 year old man, whose name was not given, had "tested negative for Ebola virus upon preliminary laboratory testing".

"In the past one month ... he had no contact history with sick persons or animals and did not visit health-are facilities. He is currently in stable condition." the statement read

Two weeks ago, the Hong Kong government said it would quarantine as a precaution all people from Ebola-infected areas who showed any symptom of the disease.

Two Sudan men die after floggings

Two Sudanese men met their death after they were detained and flogged 40 times each, a rights group said on Friday.

Hussein Hadab, 45, and Khamis Koko, 60, were convicted separately on 3 and 4 August after being detained for drinking alcohol and causing a public nuisance, the African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS) said in a statement.
Each was sentenced in the coastal city of Port Sudan to 40 lashes, penalties that were immediately carried out.

Recently, a Sudanese court convicted a pregnant Christian woman, Meriam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag, of apostasy from Islam and sentenced her to hang, according to Islamic shari'ah law.
An appeal court later overturned the ruling after her case drew worldwide attention. She later left Sudan for the United States.
